How to Report a Property Claim

In the event of a property loss, it is important that you immediately contact one of the following to prevent further loss:

  • Fire department: in the event of a fire
  • Plumber: in the event of a loss involving water lines or mains
  • Police: in the event of theft or vandalism (you will be given an incident number by the police, have this ready for your adjuster)

If your property has been damaged, you should take steps as soon as possible to prevent further damage by covering broken windows, securing broken doors, turning the water off, etc. Do not throw away any damaged property before talking to your adjuster. The adjuster needs to see all the damage so they can make an accurate assessment of the loss. After an adjuster has had a chance to view the damage they will advise you on how to proceed.

In the event of a dog bite, slip and fall, or even a stone thrown from your lawn mower, it is advisable to call the police right away.

If any of the above should happen, or if you don’t know if you need to file a claim, call Howard Mutual and ask for help from the Claims Department as soon as possible.

If your incident occurs on a weekend or after-hours, the after-hours claims service will take your information and it will be forwarded to the Claims Department. A claims adjuster will be assigned and will contact you to discuss your claim and to provide direction on the next business day.

Have your Howard Mutual policy number ready when you call.  It is located at the top right-hand corner of your policy document.
